Newark officers responded to a report of a man pointing a gun at a woman during an argument near Market Street and Littleton Avenue around 1:15 p.m., Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara said.

The man then fled the scene in a white Nissan Altima driven by a woman who had been involved in the argument with the victim, authorities said.

Mahdee Carter, 30, and Aljamir Parrish-Williams, 20, allegedly ignored officers’ requests and fled into a nearby home as the vehicle was stopped at Littleton Avenue near Cabinet Street.

Carter and Parrish-Williams, both of Newark, were later taken into custody with assistance from the Newark Police Emergency Response Team.

Both suspects were charged with obstruction of the administration of the law. Carter also faces charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
